Hiking along the Coast to Crest Trail

The Coast to Crest trail offers more than 65 miles of trails extending from the ocean in Del Mar to the Volcan Mountain near Julian reserved for hiking, biking, and equestrians. To access the start of the trail, go west on Via de la Valle, then south on Jimmy Durante Blvd, just past the bridge over the San Dieguito River. Biking on Coast Highway 101

Feel the wind in your hair along Coast Blvd. Start your route at along Camino Del Mar, take a left on 13th Street (elev. 63) to Ocean Ave. and head North to North (Dog) Beach (elev. 11.6) that continues onto Coast Highway 101 Make a few stops along the way to take in the ocean views and park your bike at many of Del Mar’s free bike racks. Del Mar offers marked "bike lanes" for your safety. Need a quick repair? The City of Del Mar has two designated repair stations located at: Civic Center: 1050 Camino Del Mar and North (Dog) Beach: 3200 Camino Del Mar.

Surfing around 15th Street

Del Mar is a friendly surf destination and crowds are not as heavy as it seems. Many people are learning and have smiles across their faces. At Del Mar Powerhouse Park St, (15th Street) it is all in within 50 yards. To the left of the main path to the beach, you can surf a mellow reef break that has both lefts and rights. Bird Watching at San Dieguito Lagoon

Explore the paved Del Mar River Path that goes along Dog Beach and lagoon. Head West on Via de la Valle, then South on Jimmy Durante Blvd, just past the bridge over the San Dieguito River on your right-hand side. Here you’ll find many of Del Mar’s native birds splashing in the water and soaking up the sun. Looking for something more interactive? For something more low-key, bring a picnic lunch and relax under the Torrey pine trees at Seagrove park while enjoying the ocean breeze.
