A day trip to Del Mar might just be the best way to celebrate the warmer weather and sunnier skies of spring. The Village is a little quieter in the spring (compared to summer, at least), but the higher temperatures mean you can spend the entire day basking in the sun. Want to make the most of the longer spring days while visiting our seaside town? Here’s the best way to spend a day in the Del Mar Village this season.
7:00 a.m. — Morning Coffee at Zumbar Coffee
Start your morning off with some quality caffeine from the newly opened Zumbar Coffee kiosk located in front of Zel’s Del Mar. The boutique coffee company was made for coffee purists (so don’t expect sugary syrups or complicated items). But anything you order will give you the jolt you need to kick off your day.
8:00 a.m. — Take a Hike
Caffeine in hand, get your blood flowing with a morning hike in the Torrey Pines State Reserve. Heading out in the early morning means you’ll be able to enjoy a peaceful stroll as you savor your coffee and take in the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
10:00 a.m. — Juice Up at Elixir Del Mar
Now that you’ve worked up a little sweat, refuel nutritiously with a fresh juice or smoothie from Elixir Del Mar. Located at Stratford Square on 15th Street, Elixir’s made-to-order juices, smoothies, and bowls are full of healthy ingredients like kale, ginger, and açai. You can also order a Panini or Hot Superfood Oatmeal Bowl to round off your breakfast, and then finish your Elixir experience with a Detox or Immunity Shot.
10:30 a.m. — Shop for Swimwear
Because spring typically means warmer weather, it’s a great opportunity to start shopping for swimsuit season. As a beach city, Del Mar has several boutiques with plenty of beachwear options. You’re bound to find the perfect swimsuit at Urban Beach House, Rusty Del Mar, or Pebbles by the Beach. And the bonus of finding swimwear in the spring is you can then rock your find all spring and summer long.
12:00 p.m. — Hit the Beach
Since you now have a brand new swimsuit, show it off and hit the beach. Whether you lie out in the sand or dip your feet in the sea, take a few hours, soak up the rays, and just enjoy the warm spring day.
3:00 p.m. — Lunch & Happy Hour at Tasting Room Del Mar
Beginning in April, Tasting Room Del Mar is bringing back their lunch menu. You can grab a small, gourmet lunch—a soup, salad, or sandwich—to hold you over until dinner. Happy hour starts at 3:00 p.m., too, so stick around for a while and sample their boutique wines and craft beers.
5:30 p.m. — Sunset Dinner at Pacifica
Make dinner a special one with a Sunset Dinner reservation at Pacifica Del Mar. The two-course dinner is served until 6:00 p.m., so you can take full advantage of the dramatic colors as the sun sets on the Pacific. And for just about $26, you can choose from the restaurant’s most popular dishes, including the Sugar-Spiced Salmon entrée.
8:00 p.m. — Live Music at Brick 15
Depending on what day you’re visiting Del Mar, you can head on over to Brick 15 once you’ve finished dinner for an evening concert. The coffeehouse hosts a variety of songwriters and bands just about every Thursday through Sunday and has an open mic night every Tuesday. Keep an eye on their event calendar for concert information and showtimes.
