Get to know the newly remodeled Del Mar Beach Hotel (formerly Del Mar Motel on the Beach):
Interview With: Ryan White, General Manager
Tell us your backstory: What was your path to owning a business in Del Mar Village? Did you grow up here? Why did you choose Del Mar Village to set up shop?
I am a southern California native who grew up in the San Fernando Valley and then attended school at San Diego State. After a career in the golf industry, my skill set transferred seamlessly into the hospitality industry. Del Mar Village was one of the premier destinations for surfing and dining so I was naturally drawn to the area. It seemed like a natural choice to continue to setup shop in North County San Diego.
Tell us about your business. What should people know about it? What makes it unique?
The Del Mar Beach Hotel is one of the only hotels in California that is directly on the beach – not across the street or even a bike path. You can literally check in with your toes in the sand. After the remodel we wanted to ensure that we had the highest quality bedding and amenities. The Frette linen and Lather bathroom products are top of the line. We offer that California comfortable feeling while providing five star service throughout your stay.
What is one product or service you are most known for or is particularly special to you?
The beds are top notch; the Sealy Black line and the Frette linen are second to none. When staying at a hotel I believe that quality sleep is the most important. Between the ocean air and the best beds you could ask for, what’s not to love?
Tell us one fun fact about your business most people don't know.
One fun fact is that we offer our own gelato flavor that has been custom curated by An's Hatmakers gelato shop [in Del Mar Plaza].
What do you love about Del Mar Village?
I love that Del Mar Village is a community unlike any other. It almost feels like an island – once you are here there is no reason to leave.
How would you spend the perfect day in Del Mar? Where would you go? What would you eat or do?
I would start my day at Stratford Court Cafe enjoying the eggs benedict. After that, I would need to walk off those extra calories along the sand. I would then spend some time on the sand and in the surf. The top of the Del Mar Plaza can't be beaten for one of the amazing lunch spots. After that, I would ride a beach cruiser up the coast to the Del Mar Race Track and see the excitement. Finally, I would end the night at Poseidon just in time to catch the sunset. After everything, I would retire from the perfect day at the Del Mar Beach Hotel.
