Paint the Town Pink: The Del Mar Village Breast Cancer 3-Day Cheering Station

Every year, DMVA rallies a crowd of well-wishers to cheer on more than 2,000 walkers that pass through the heart of Del Mar Village as the San Diego Susan G. Komen 3-Day® kicks off in Del Mar.

Since 2010, this cheering station has been an annual outpouring of support from the community that welcomes the walkers with pink decor, signs, upbeat music, big smiles and encouragement. Cheerleaders from Torrey Pines High School, the Del Mar Lifeguards, local business owners and community residents line the streets to cheer the event participants on their journey as they travel more than 60 miles south to San Diego to raise funds and awareness in the fight to end breast cancer.

Every year, participants spend months training and fundraising millions of dollars to fund Susan G. Komen’s mission: research, supportive care, early diagnoses and treatment assistance. One of the rewards of this important work? Walking 60 miles through San Diego! Sometimes hilly, always with beautiful views, it’s a hard journey and it’s emotional, but event organizers have said time and time again that it’s the community support from Del Martians that makes the experience even more special and memorable for participants.

Help us create the best “first impression” for these walkers! Anyone interested in participating in this fun and inspirational morning is encouraged to dress in pink and come to Del Mar Village just south of 15th Street on Camino Del Mar/Highway 101 between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m. on the Friday the walk kicks off. For this year’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day® dates, visit www.the3day.org.

It’s the single most inspirational way to start your morning, and year after year walkers share the Del Mar Village cheering station is one of their favorite parts about participating in the walk. By sharing your time, enthusiasm, and energy, you will make walkers smile, make them laugh and make them feel valued.
