San Diego Area Spring Break Destination Ideas

If you’re ready for a well-deserved break from work or school after a long winter, you can’t beat the spring break destinations of southern California, particularly the San Diego metro area. Here are some of the best spring break destinations in San Diego County.

  • San Diego. Naturally, San Diego is the heart of the far southern California coast, and it offers boundless top-notch vacation experiences. Known as “America’s finest city,” it boasts a world-famous zoo and safari park, Seaworld, an air and space museum, and other family-friendly attractions. Beautiful Balboa Park contains museums, theaters, gardens, and trails. You can catch a whale-watching or harbor cruise, go skydiving, and enjoy plenty of other adventures.

  • La Jolla. Lovers of nature and the outdoors won’t want to miss the La Jolla Cove underwater marine park and sanctuary, San Diego’s top spot for swimming, diving, snorkeling, and watching sea lions. Explorers and hikers will love the La Jolla volcanic caves. Alternatively, you can pull up some sand at La Jolla Shores Park or Windansea Beach, go paragliding at Torrey Pines, or enjoy a day of shopping and dining in town.

  • Solana Beach. Solana Beach is a great place not only to soak up the sun, but to try new things. It’s known for its breathtaking scenic tours by electric or mountain bike. You can also get surfing lessons, explore canyon trails, take in the views at Fletcher Cove Park, go wine tasting, or check out one of the community’s many art galleries.

  • Del Mar. If you’re looking for somewhere a little off the beaten path, but with plenty to do, plan a trip to Del Mar. In addition to a wealth of parks and beaches, this unique seaside village offers plenty of outdoor recreation (including horseback riding and surfing) as well as a horse racetrack, luxury hotels, boutique shops and eateries, salons, and even a bird sanctuary. Del Mar is also one of the best spring break destinations for families, who will likely want to check out Del Mar Art + Play Space and pet-friendly restaurants.

Plan a Spring Break at Del Mar Village

Del Mar Village is a quaint seaside community rich in history, striking natural beauty, and European charm. First renowned during the golden era of the movie industry, Del Mar was the retreat for Hollywood’s biggest movie stars, who came to enjoy its peaceful ambiance, pristine beaches, and exhilarating thoroughbred horse racing.

Located just 20 miles north of San Diego on the Southern California coastline, Del Mar Village is unique in its offering of a vibrant small-town atmosphere, sprawling natural playground along the Pacific Ocean, and the casual sophistication of a world-class destination.
