Del Mar Village Small Business Spotlight:

Interview With: Barton And Barton

Tell us your backstory: What was your path to owning a business in Del Mar Village? Did you grow up here? Why did you choose Del Mar Village to set up shop?

I’ve always had a deep connection to the Del Mar community, and it’s this connection that ultimately led me to open my business here. Although I didn’t grow up in Del Mar, I’ve lived in the area for many years and have always been drawn to the village’s unique charm, vibrant culture, and strong sense of community.

The decision to open a business in Del Mar Village was a natural one. It’s a thriving area that attracts residents and visitors who value quality, personal service, and a sense of authenticity—all qualities I wanted to bring to my business. Plus, the opportunity to work closely with local residents and contribute to the ongoing success of the area was incredibly exciting. Del Mar is a place where everyone knows each other, and you’re not just another business—you’re part of a vibrant, welcoming community.

Setting up shop in Del Mar Village allowed me to build a business that not only caters to the needs of our local residents but also embodies the essence of the area: relaxed yet refined, with a focus on quality and connection. It’s been rewarding to see our business grow alongside this beautiful village, and I’m proud to be part of such a supportive and dynamic community.

Tell us about your business. What should people know about it? What makes it unique?

We offer a unique blend to our approach because we are a licensed general contractor and interior designers. We switch our boots one day for heels on another day. Our focus is on delivering exceptional quality in every aspect of the construction and design process, ensuring that our clients receive personalized attention and a seamless experience from start to finish.

What sets us apart is our ability to combine the expertise of a licensed general contractor with the creative vision of an interior designer. We’re not just about building structures or designing rooms—we’re about bringing the two together in a way that creates holistic, cohesive spaces that truly feel like home or reflect a brand’s identity. Whether it’s a remodel, new construction, or a design overhaul, we oversee every detail, from the initial concept to the final touches.

What is one menu item or product you are most known for or is particularly special to you?

One project that holds a special place in my heart is a complete remodel of a home in Del Mar that I had the unique opportunity to work on. This home wasn’t just any project—it was the house I previously lived in. When the opportunity came to remodel it for some close friends and clients, it felt like the perfect full-circle moment.

Having lived in the space, I knew the home’s potential, but the chance to bring my vision as both a licensed general contractor and interior designer to life was an incredible experience. The house has truly evolved, from the memories I created in it to now becoming a stunning, modern space that reflects my client’s needs and style.

What makes this project so special is the personal connection I have to the house. Watching it transform, while also honoring its history and my own experiences there, was deeply rewarding. It’s one of those rare projects where you get to see a place you know so well undergo such a beautiful transformation.

Tell us one fun fact about your business most people don't know.

One fun fact about my business is that I’m originally from the UK, and I began my design journey designing homes in London. My early projects in London were all about blending classic British style with modern touches, but after moving to California with my family, I found my design aesthetic evolving to reflect my new surroundings—homes by the beach.

The shift from city living to coastal life gave me the opportunity to transform my style into something more relaxed yet still sophisticated, bringing in elements of light, airiness, and natural materials that complement the laid-back beach vibe of the West Coast. It’s been amazing to blend my British roots with the local Californian aesthetic, and it’s something I bring into every project I take on.

This mix of influences gives my designs a unique twist that’s both elegant and beachy, helping me create spaces that feel comfortable, welcoming, and just a little bit special—whether it’s a cozy cottage or a sleek modern home by the ocean.

What do you love about Del Mar Village?

The community! We have a tight group and it couldn't be any better.

How would you spend the perfect day in Del Mar? Where would you go? What would you eat or do?

My perfect day would be a morning class at Pilates of San Diego, followed by breakfast at Pacifica then a long walk on Del Mar Beach.
