Top 5 Things To Do in SoCal

What Is SoCal?

Simply put, “SoCal” is short for “southern California,” and it includes all land south of the Sierra Nevada and Tehachapi mountains. It’s known for its mediterranean climate as well as for major cities like Los Angeles and San Diego.

Things To Do

If you’re planning a vacation in the Golden State, SoCal is your playground. With a fairly mild climate and about 275 days of sunshine per year, it’s not difficult to enjoy the outdoors as much as indoor attractions, even in winter. Here are some of the best things to do in southern California (in no particular order):

  • Go to Disneyland. Disneyland has undeniably been one of the most popular destinations for families, couples, and friends on vacation since the park opened in 1955. It features 6 themed sections with iconic rides and virtually countless dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences.

  • Head for the beach. SoCal’s stunning beaches are arguably the best part of the entire state. There are 31 beaches in San Diego County alone, and they offer endless possibilities for exercise, exploration, and relaxation. Enjoy world-class surfing, kayaking, swimming, volleyball, hiking, running, dog walks, picnics, playgrounds, beachcombing, and all-around zen.

  • Visit state and national parks. San Diego County is home to a wealth of state and national parks. The most popular of these is Joshua Tree National Park, famous for its desert landscape, rock formations, wildlife, and Joshua trees. However, other scenic options include Channel Islands National Park, Death Valley National Park, and the Mojave National Preserve. This county also features 16 beautiful state parks and beaches.

  • See marine wildlife. SoCal is ideal for watching marine and land-based wildlife. Take a whale-watching cruise, visit the world-famous San Diego Zoo, or check out La Jolla Cove’s ecological preserve. You can tour its sea caves and observe seals, sea lions, leopard sharks, dolphins, gray whales, pelicans, other whales, and more.

  • Pamper yourself. In part because it contains Los Angeles and Hollywood, SoCal is a prime destination for anything you might need to spoil yourself—a little or a lot. Enjoy top-notch spas, fine dining, and some of the nation’s most fashionable boutique shops. You’ll find everything you need to feel golden, whether it’s a designer outfit, statement jewelry, the perfect pair of sunnies, or a new surfboard.
